    Shoot and Burn

    Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

I attended David Ziser’s  ”Digital Wake Up Call” class yesterday evening. I learned quite a bit and it was a fun class. One thing that stuck out to me, while David was telling us a little about his blog, he mentioned “shoot and burn” photographers. You know photographers that shoot the pictures and give their clients the photographs on cd/dvd and they are done. While he had blogged about it a while back I think it is very relevant not only for wedding photographers like David but for photographers like myself that do portraits. At WPPI Jerry Ghionis also talked a bit about this and was very direct in saying that giving photographs to clients on cd/dvd instead of following through and printing them is a dis-service. I agree with them both and know first hand how much work goes in to making perfect prints and other items. Our clients are too valuable to us to make a quick buck, hand them a dvd and leave. Giving a cd/dvd is something we get asked about all the time. In some cases it is expected for us to do so even though we never have. Is giving a client a cd what they really want?

Have a read of David Ziser’s blog post entitled Are We Doing Ourselves And our Clients A Disservice If We Deliver Wedding Images On A DVD?”
